Join Zeteo UK’s First Live, Reacting to Andy Burnham’s Big By-Election Win and Asking What it All Means
Today at 3pm, Shehab Khan and Mehdi are going live with special guests to react, analyse and discuss the Makerfield by-election, and ask whether Keir Starmer is now... toast.

Andy Burnham didn’t just win the Makerfield by-election last night. He won big, with an overwhelming majority, and more votes than Reform UK and Restore combined!
So what happens now? Will Burnham launch a leadership challenge immediately? Or wait a while? Can Prime Minister Keir Starmer cling on to Downing Street in the face of such a challenge? Is the United Kingdom ready for yet another leadership crisis? And what does the Labour Party even stand for anymore? Hugely consequential elections like the one in Makerfield yesterday are the kind of moments Zeteo UK was created for, and we are giving you the chance to be part of our coverage.
Tune in to Zeteo UK on YouTube or Substack today, Friday, at 3 pm in the UK, to watch as our political editor Shehab Khan and Mehdi go live to discuss the results of the UK’s most consequential by-election in recent memory. They will be joined by special guests Ava Santina, Political Editor at Politics Joe, and John McTernan, former Political Secretary to Tony Blair and advisor to several cabinet ministers under Gordon Brown.
Viewers will also get to take part in the conversation by dropping their own questions in the chat for Shehab, Mehdi, and their guests to take on!
This live will be available to all subscribers, both free and paid. I managed to watch this on YouTube, but I really couldn’t seem to access the chat or leave a question. Anyone know what I was doing wrong? I subsequently managed to download the app but would’ve liked to be participating a little more. Now I’m on the app I can’t see any of the questions. Mine was, when are you gonna talk about Gaza lol Thankfully lots of other people seem to have the same idea!
That was a really cool live discussion @Zeteo UK - lots of insights gained from people who are clearly not in an echo chamber of comfortable agreement. The next few weeks in British politics are going to be lively and interesting; I’m looking forward to a bit of a shake up and possibly a return to cautious optimism. My two priorities are 1) speak up for Palestine and stop supporting Israel’s genocide 2) quash Reform and right wingism in every way possible. For me nothing less will do, and anybody unwilling to speak up loud and clear on these issues will lose the vote of a lifelong Labour supporter, for what it’s worth.
Well done @Mehdi Hassan @Shehbab Khan and @Zeteo UK and guests for a great beginning.
