Dawn Butler, who wants to be the next Mayor of London if Sadiq Khan steps down, has said she would sack Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley and replace him with an independent commissioner.
Appearing on ‘The Real Question with Shehab Khan’, Butler, who has been an MP for 16 years and was a minister under Gordon Brown, said that she would prefer to have a someone who is not a police officer run the Metropolitan Police:
“I think we need a new commissioner. [Rowley] has done his bit, he has moved as far as he can. I think the next Met Commissioner shouldn’t be a former police officer.”
